Willamette Valley Blues & Brews Festival 2011

I just wanted to make sure you have the Willamette Valley Blues & Brews Festival on your calendar. I'll be hosting the Island Park (Springfield, Oregon) main stage on Friday, August 5th, and hanging out around the green room to make sure the musicians have plenty of food & water to keep them ready to share their blues with you.

Music Logging Starts Next Week

Hi Blues Lovers,

What might be an invisible event, to you, begins next week and continues for two weeks. KRVM DJ's that are doing live shows are required to type detailed information about every song we play on the air into a spreadsheet, in addition to managing our show, which is enough unto itself. Forgive me, but I'm going to make it easier for myself and play around with a new format style next week. It will be a 2X2 format. I'll be playing two songs by each artist back to back. Simply stated, this makes the music logging a little bit easier for me. I may even get all jiggy with it and do a 3X3 format the following week, if I can get away with it.

So, I hope you'll enjoy the 2X2 format next week. Feel free to comment. I can take it. ;-)

RegeMama's Famous Clam Chowder

You've been begging for it, you know it. So now you can make it yourself. Enjoy!

Serves six.

Ingredients:

1 slice bacon, minced
1/2 teaspoon butter
1 cup minced onion
2 stalks thinly sliced celery
1-2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon spice blend*
1 can drained minced clams (6.5 oz)
1 cup bottled clam juice
1 1/2 cups Half & Half
1/4 teaspoon white pepper (optional)
2 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, diced, boiled, and drained
3-4 tablespoons all-purpose flour (depending on how thick you want the chowder)

Preparation:
In a heavy-bottomed, 4-pint soup kettle, sauté bacon; then add butter, celery, onion, garlic and 1 tablespoon of the spice blend* over low heat. Saute until onions and celery are almost soft. Slowly stir the flour into the sauté mixture. Add clam juice and slowly bring to a boil. Reduce heat and add Half and Half. Slowly bring back to a timid boil and simmer 20 minutes, stirring frequently until mixture begins to thicken. Add white pepper, salt, and potatoes. Heat to serving temperature, add clams last and stir into chowder. Serve at once.

Note: if you double or triple this recipe, allow more time for simmering until you reach the consistency you want .

*To create the spice blend:
Blend the following ingredients and store in a resealable plastic bag for future use:

4 teaspoons oregano
4 teaspoons dried parsley
4 teaspoons thyme
4 teaspoons basil
4 teaspoons rosemary
2 teaspoons marjoram
2 teaspoons dill
2 teaspoons tarragon
1 teaspoon sage

Now, quit your whining and get out there and Dance In Your Under Wear while you listen to KRVM's Breakfast with the Blues!

Aren't Grand Kids the Best?

Happy Summer, Blues Lovers!

I'm taking my Grand Kids to the Enchanted Forest today. Planning to play them some fun blues to listen to on the way there (hehehe) and take lots of fun pictures as they explore and play in the park.

Have you heard of Blues in the Schools? It's a program sponsored by the Rainy Day Blues Society that provides some blues education and entertainment to children in schools. Here's a cute little video of RDBS musicians having some "blues" fun with the kids!

Hey Fellow Blues Lovers,

One thing we can always count on in our lives is change. On that note, effective July 1, 2010, I'll be returning to KRVM as the Thursday morning Breakfast with the Blues Hostess, as Greg Carter signs off as your regular host. Greg has been a great BWTB host and a very good friend to me over the past years. I'll miss him on Thursday mornings, as I'm sure you will, too.

I'll be posting my Thursday playlist here for your information, along with my notations for the week. I welcome your BWTB show feedback and music requests, which I will try to find and play for you.

Are you ready for summer yet? I heard it's just around the corner, but I haven't heard it knocking on my door yet.

Summer '09

Hi Friends,

Quick update: I've been a full-time student at LCC since January. I'm working towards an Associate of Applied Science in Multimedia Design. So far, it's going great. Currently on a six week summer break until Fall term begins the end of September.

My buddy, Phil Sattler from Australia, is coming for a short visit next week and I plan to take him to see Crater Lake, the Coast, and Sahalie Falls while he's here. We'll also be enjoying some blues at Diablo's next Wednesday night.
